Another day in the opposite of paradise.
On the plus side mom got flowers delivered to her, from family. That was a nice surprise, sis came over with the hubby and baby Jed for Easter. Baby Jed made her an adorable picture of carrots that were his footprints! So cute.
Spoke with a few doctors today.
One from the infectious diseases dept. Following up, making sure mom was doing OK off the antibiotics. Just checking in. The antibiotics they said she needed because she had pneumonia, only come to find its actually a pleural effusion (fluid in the lungs) and not pneumonia at all.
Greg, Lung Doc: ordered another chest x-ray, they came and got that done, he seems to think there is more fluid build up by listening to her lungs, if that is the case he will have a catheter put in to drain anymore fluid, it is something she can drain on her own at home. As she just had a Thoracentises (removal of fluid from the lungs) for the second time just the other day.
Dr. Goldberg, GI doc:
Originally concerned about digestive issues, dry throat and inability to swallow well, they ordered a video swallow, we were able to see thru x-ray that she is able to swallow, it is difficult, but it does go down. So if there is any issues it would be further down her stomach, but not in the throat. Mom doesn't seem too concerned with that. She pretty much stopped eating all together, and had been for 2 weeks prior to coming into the hospital.
They finally issued her some nutrition via IV, which should take effect tonight sometime. As to why it took almost 2 weeks for someone to say that she had malnutrition and needed it via IV, I am beyond baffled. Took the same amount of time for them to say she was dehydrated - only AFTER I of all people mentioned something.
Kidneys: The ultrasound looked good, no blockages or tumors to be concerned about. She is not getting worse, so that's positive, the doctor seems to think that her kidneys will improve over the next few days. Her levels are high tho because her organs aren't getting what they need to function at maximum.
Heart : Blood pressure has been looking good, at times a high heart rate, but that only seems to happen when mom gets out of bed and tries to move about.
Blood: she had an intravenous port inserted in her chest on the 30th, they accessed that yesterday to draw blood since they have used her as a human on cushion and can't get anymore blood from her.
She did do some physical therapy today, she is just so drowsy from the meds it's hard for her to focus, she keeps falling asleep.
More updates to come!
*continuing to pray*
